Here’s one way to keep the cabin fever at bay during the holiday break: pack the kids in the car and head to Lambertville, NJ for the day. It's definitely worth the hour's drive as there are plenty of winter activities to keep you warm and the kids entertained.

The Pumpkin Festival at the Whippany Railway Museum is a train-obsessed child's fantasy of fun. Not only are there scarecrows and pumpkins and corn shocks, but there's a real train ride too!!!!

Bergen County Zoo turns 50 on Saturday and to celebrate they're letting everyone in for free. Yay! We love free things. Of course, that'll probably mean the place will be a madhouse, but there's other stuff to do in Van Saun Park (home of said zoo) to keep everyone happy.

If you're looking to fill an entire day without having to move the car even once after you arrive, head over to Van Saun Park in Paramus. You can park the car (for free!) in the zoo parking lot and then meander to the carousel, choo-choo train, totally awesome playground or, of course, the zoo.
